Across the city, the cold winter has set in, forcing people to retreat indoors. – But what pests have followed you in search of warmth and comfort inside your home? Here are some pests to be aware of this winter:
Rodents
You are sitting in your house, cozying up by the fire – the last thing you want is to share your warm spot with a rat! They can cause major damage to your home and put your family’s health at risk! They would have entered your home by squeezing through small holes or climbing up drain pipes just before winter began.
Warning signs include droppings, smell of urine and teeth marks on wires/household objects.
Ants
Ants enter homes for food during the cold winter months. They can reproduce rapidly and end up in thousands, around your house! They are a pain, especially when they try to claim your pantry of snacks, sugars and fruits.
Warning signs include excavated materials inside the house.
Spiders
Although relatively unharmful, spiders are unnerving to encounter in your household. They move indoors to find food.
Warning signs include spider webs in dark corners, or in moist environments.
Cockroaches
Unfortunately, cockroaches survive freezing cold temperatures by seeking shelter close to humans. They usually nest around the bathroom or kitchen of your house.
Warning signs include feces that look like coffee grounds, or musty odours.
Wildlife
As if worrying about all these pests weren’t enough, you should also check what furry friend could have moved into the attic this winter. Squirrels and raccoons love to seek shelter up there!
Warning signs include nocturnal noises and animal sightings.
