End of Summer = End of Pests?
The last week of August has already started to feel like fall weather! The kids are getting ready to go back to school and you are winding down your summer plans. Are you wondering, does the end of summer mean the end of pest season? The answer is no! The end of summer can be a busy season for certain types of pests. From yellow jacket to mice, lingering mosquitoes and ticks – these pests are all still hanging around. Some of them can also be a health hazard if you do not protect you and your family. With stings and bites, these pests can carry some dangerous diseases. So how do you protect yourself? Here are a few helpful tips to keep your home pest free at the end of summer:
Keep the food away – Many pests like food and sweet things! For example, yellow jackets are attracted to sugary or sweet items. Don’t leave them unattended outside and keep your garbages tightly sealed!
Look out for nests – Yellow jacket nests can appear almost anywhere! Do not attempt to remove them on your own. Contact a professional exterminator, like Advantage Pest Control to take care of the job!
Mice + Rats – The summer months are a very busy season for mice and rats! With the dropping temperatures for fall, they’ll be looking for new places to harbour!
Do not leave standing water lingering – This is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. If the kids have been playing outside, remove water from toys or inflatable pools to minimize risk.
