As we approach the fall months, a whole new season’s worth of pests are starting to emerge! Implementing a few precautionary prevention tactics could help save your home from pests this fall.
Prevention Tips For Fall Pests
With the back-to-school season in full swing and schedules starting to fill up, the last thing you need to deal with is a pest infestation. To help protect your home this fall, we recommend to do the following:
Inspect your siding. If you have siding on your home, use a mirror to check the underside and fill in any gaps you find.
Seal all doors and windows. Even if you can’t see an entryway, we recommend sealing any openings to your home with adhesive-backed weatherstripping. Home Depot has several different options for this.
Check your dryer vent. Make sure your dryer vent is secured tightly and not stuck open or broken.
Keep your property tidy. Use a rake to remove any fall debris from windows, doors and wooden fixtures.
Don’t leave anything on the floor. Make sure that all food (including pet food) is sealed and kept off of the floor. We suggest purchasing a wire shelving rack for pantries and basement storage. This will help you avoid collecting moisture in your home that is likely to attract pests.
Fall Pests To Be Aware Of
While the weather starts to cool down, certain pests will be on the lookout for new food sources and shelter to escape the cold. Some of the most common fall pests include:
- Spiders
- Centipedes
- Ladybugs
- Crickets
- Stink bugs
- Bed bugs
- Box-elder bugs
