The continuous rise of bed bug problems in Toronto is not only trouble for homeowners, but students too! While sending your kids to university, you may not have considered the potential of a pest problem like bed bugs to affect them. Ryerson University reports that “bed bugs keep bugging them”! Although the school does their part to inspect all spaces prior to residence move in dates, they still come across at least a few cases of bed bugs per year. Canine scent detection is the most effective way to find bedbugs as human inspections can result in inconclusive or false negatives. Dogs have been used to find bombs and drugs and now are used to find bedbugs and termites… they are truly man’s best friend! If a bed bug problem does arrive in their dorm/residence, the student is asked to relocate while a heat treatment process is executed to get rid of the problem. Be sure to warn your children in university to be aware of the warning signs for bed bugs. They should take extra precaution when sharing spaces with others. After all, it’s absolutely no fun to go to school with bed bugs!
