Did you know that ants could fly? Well, most people think that ants only crawl, but there are instances that ants can be seen flying around houses or in the garden. These flying ants are both a sign of mating and infestation. Therefore, if you have spotted flying ants in your home, it is best to seek a pest control services as soon as possible to prevent further infestation. Here at Advantage Pest Control, we can take care of ant infestations at your home, backyard or office.
Flying Ants are literally female and male ants mating. This natural phenomenon is part of an important phase in their reproduction and this process is widely known as “nuptial flight.”
During the mating process, the queen ants lose their wings and drop to the ground to look for a new colony, while the male ants explode their internal genitalia into the genital chamber of the queen ants and quickly die.
Just recently, this year, flying ants were spotted in large congregations at lawns and sidewalks of Coquitlam, New Westminster, Surrey, and Vancouver. This type of incident is informally known as “Flying Ant Day,” where queen ants emerge from their nest to start their nuptial flight along with the smaller male ants.
At some point, if you see swarms of flying ants in your house, most likely this is a sign that there is a colony of working ants growing for months in your house. To help you with this situation or any other pest control service, you can contact us at Advantage Pest Control in Toronto, Ontario.
