It’s that time of the year to be wary of the cold, snow and…mice! During the winter months, mice hunt for spaces that radiate heat to help them survive. This includes your home! While mice need a place to live, they also need other resources, including food. So what exactly do mice eat? We are here to share some insight!
In recent news, a mouse was found inside a package of bread in a No Frills grocery store in Hamilton, Ontario. The woman who saw the mouse posted a picture of the incident on her social media account. She was at the cashier’s station about to pay for her groceries when she noticed a live mouse inside her bag of bread! She wrote in her post that she felt disgusted and shocked by the situation. With this incident, the bread maker sent the woman a gift card and the Loblaw’s company that owns the No Frills grocery issued an apology.
The truth is that a typical city mouse can eat any number of things, including the bread mentioned in the news. According to Live Science, mice like to splurge on seeds, grains and fruits. They are usually omnivorous by nature and thus, they eat both meat and plants. In some cases, mice can even eat each other when food is scarce.
Mice are known as voracious eaters, especially the ones infesting homes, offices, groceries and other establishments in the city. They can eat around 15 to 20 times per day. They will eat anything they can get! This is why it is important to keep your home and kitchen clean and free of crumbs or exposed food. Mice may even chew on inedible things, such as cardboard boxes, electrical cables, and other household materials.
Mice build their homes in dark areas and places that have accessible food sources. If you come across holes in cereal boxes or chew marks on electrical wiring, don’t think twice – contact us at Advantage Pest Control to help remove mice from your home.
