Carpenter ants are prevalent destructive pests at home. If you want to know if your place is housing Carpenter ants, here are some of the warning signs you must look for:
First warning sign: When Carpenter ants get into your house, the first thing they do is to send their worker ants to hunt some food. You might see a few worker ants in your home and this can be considered as a first sign that something more is hidden in your house.
Carpenter Ants are large black ants that have one single node between their thorax and abdomen. Don’t confuse them with pavements ants because carpenter ants are more prominent in size.
Second warning sign: Once you see some sawdust underneath kick out holes in the crawl spaces of your house like garage or basement area, it means that the carpenter ants have started nesting. Unlike termites, they don’t eat the wood, but they just chew it and spit it out, which results in sawdust (frass) formation. Seeing them in the winter is the best sign of them having developed a colony in the home.
Third warning sign: After nesting starts, carpenter ants will look for more nesting areas. When you see flying ants even outside your house, it means they’re mating and creating more galleries to build their nesting place.
Final warning sign: The most severe sign that Carpenter ants are invading your home are bulging walls, swelling ceilings, weakening structures and supports. Don’t allow this warning sign to happen. Always be prudent in looking for early signs of infestation.
