Winterize Your Home From Pests
Winter weather is on its way! However, this doesn’t mean that pests just go away. If you start to winterize your home now, you will relieve yourself of the worry from unwanted house guests (pests). Here are some helpful tips to help winterize your home for the winter season.
1. Close off + tighten areas around the house to prevent entry ways for pests. This means looking for any holes or gaps and closing/sealing them off. Look inside cabinets, behind furniture and especially close to any entryways. You can use a protective seal or caulk to close the gap. Pests that like to sneak their way inside include rats and mice.
2. Rake up those leaves! But don’t leave the piles hanging around either. A leaf pile can be a warm and inviting environment for pests, especially they are close to your home. Some pests that are found in leaf piles include ants, earwigs, rodents and sometimes snakes!
3. Eliminate moisture. Check your home for leaks or pipe problems. Water is a resource for pests which attracts them into your home. Some pests that are attracted to moisture include silverfish, cockroaches, house centipedes and termites.
4. Clean out those gutters! The next few weeks will bring rain and more falling leaves, which will eventually get stuck in your gutters. This may be another trouble area that attracts pests. It is common to find pests in your gutters including rodents, termites, carpenter ants and bees.
